Why do WhatsApp templates get rejected?
The most common reasons are variables at the very start or end of the body, variables that skip numbers or sit right next to each other, too many variables for the amount of text, text over the character limits, and promotional content submitted under the Utility category.
What are the character limits for WhatsApp templates?
A text header can be up to 60 characters, the body up to 1,024 characters, the footer up to 60 characters, and each button label up to 25 characters.
Why was my utility template changed to marketing?
Meta recategorises templates whose content is promotional, such as offers, discounts or sales, even if you submitted them as Utility. Marketing messages cost more, so keep utility templates strictly about an order, payment or account the user already has.
How long does template approval take?
Most templates are reviewed within minutes, though some take up to 24 hours. Using sample values that look realistic helps the reviewer understand the message.
